The Philadelphia Zoo needed a new, safe primate exhibit after a 1995 fire at the Zoo's "World of Primates" in which all the animal inhabitants perished. Perks Reutter Associates worked closely with officials at the Philadelphia Zoo to help replace the destroyed facility with a state-of-the-art exhibit, PECO Primate Reserve. The Primate Reserve is one of several capital projects at the Zoo that Perks Reutter has managed. Perks Reutter provided complete program management services from design through construction and occupancy. Primate Reserve redefines the international standard for primate habitats, using a "defend-in-place" animal safety strategy.
