The School District Of Philadelphia

The School District of Philadelphia opened America’s first public school in 1698 at the corner of 4th and Chestnut Streets. In the 300 intervening years, the School District has become the 5th largest public school system in the nation with more than 250 elementary, middle, high and special schools and nearly 220,000 students in early childhood programs through 12th grade. Perks Reutter performed a comprehensive Facilities Condition Assessment of all schools in the School District. This assessment included the joint development, with the School District, of building condition standards, school by school, room by room condition assessments conducted by teams of architects and engineers, the preparation of detailed cost estimates for the repairs needed to bring the schools up to the building condition standards, and finally the delivery of an electronic data base and final individual school reports to be used for maintenance and capital planning purposes. These projects involved more than a year’s worth of technical and field data collection.
