The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in partnership with Cumberland County initiated a watershed management planning process for Watershed Management Area 17, the southernmost watershed of the Lower Delaware Region, including the Maurice, Cohansey, and Salem Rivers. This Characterization and Assessment is the culmination of a directed Watershed Management Study effort that included a lengthy and rigorous information collection, validation and analysis effort, and a public participation process that helped shape its content, appearance and functionality.  This Characterization and Assessment provides viewers with an overview of the watershed in which they live, work and play, and begins to answer questions about why the region is the way it is.
